Hi Everyone –

If you remember from an e-mail I sent you about the Loosie/Goosie Tour to Utah, I saw an article in Archaeology Magazine about a paleontologist in Kanab Utah who was digging up T-Rex Bones.

I did a little research, found a telephone number for him and we got a tour in the lab with him!  What a great experience.

Well, that experience gave me the courage to call Dr. George Bey lll, the archaeologist who, in 2013, along with Tomas Gallareta Negron of INAH, discovered Kiuic, a Mayan Ruin dating back to 700 BC.

If any of you are frustrated archaeologist-wanna-bees like I am, you may have watched the National Geographic Wild special on the lost cities of the Mayas where they were using “lydar” (spelling may be wrong). It is where they can visually remove the overgrowth and find ruins under the jungle!

Anyway, although Dr. Bey thought my voicemail may be a scam, he returned my call and 12 of you are going to benefit from that conversation!

Dr. Bey was extremely helpful, and we set up 2 days at Kiuic and surrounding Mayan Ruins with Dr. Callareta as our guide, and a Mayan style dinner, lecture and artifact show at the research center.

Now I figured you didn’t want to sleep in hammocks so we will stay at a hotel 3 to 4 block away from the center.

Just as an FYI, Kiuic is not open to the public so very few people except researchers have been able to visit.

A little information on Dr. Callareta, he has given tours to Presidents Bush and Clinton, Japan’s Prince among others so I think we will have a skilled guide!

Needless to say, I am over the top with excitement!!!

Dr. Bey was also most helpful about suggesting other spots to visit and artisans who create and sell Mayan-style art to museum and galleries!

Bring an extra suitcase and the credit cards!

I hope this tour will be of interest to 12 of you.  I will try diligently to keep the cost as low as possible, but this is one you don’t want to miss!

Hope you are as excited as I!

You should know, there will be considerable walking, it will probably be hot and humid and I’m starting at the gym and on a diet so I can do this!!!  You have time to get prepared!  Talk about a motivator!!  L.
