Ambos Tours of Arizona 2019 Tours

2019 is the 20-year anniversary for Ambos Tours!

We have been providing high quality small group tours since 1999 and plan them to be interesting, fun and educational.  Come join us!

January and February

Oaxaca Tour
January 5 – 18

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo and Queretaro Tour
January 29 – February 5

We will stay in San Miguel de Allende and do daily tours to the surrounding areas.  San Miguel and Guanajuato are considered to be among the most beautiful cities in the world.  Dolores Hidalgo is where Fr. Miguel Hidalgo declared independence from the Spanish in 1810 and Querétaro is a historic city rich in silver mining history. All four cities are rich in Spanish colonial history and architecture.

March

Oaxaca Tour
March 9 – 16

This is the week of Spring Break for the Santa Cruz Unified School District, the Nogales Unified School District and many other districts from around the state. It will be a great experience for educators to take a break while learning about and experiencing the history, cultures, art and cuisine of this unique place.

April

UNESCO site of Paquime, Chihuahua
April 26 – 29, 2019

This is the pottery high point of Mata Ortiz and prehistory of Cueva de la Olla in Chihuahua.  We hope we have the opportunity to visit the Sotol distillery and get a taste or two and stay at Spencer and Emi MacCallum’s place. $630 per person/double – all-inclusive once we get into Mexico.  Pottery on your own!  This is a small group tour…3 or 4 people would work well.

May

Northern Arizona “Loosie Goosie” Tour
May 1 – 10

This 10 day tour starts in Green Valley and goes North.  We will enjoy a late lunch at the Rock Springs Café just south of Black Canyon City and then head to Sedona.  From there we will tour Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, Cameron, Az on the Navajo Reservation, Meteor Crater, stay at La Posada Hotel in Winslow, visit Second Mesa on the Hopi reservation, do the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest, check out the Hubbell Trading post in Ganado, stay at the Thunderbird Lodge in Chinle and take the half day Canyon de Chelly tour, go a bit into New Mexico to tour Chaco Cultural Center (Chaco Canyon) and then head home through the beautiful White Mountains with lunch at Hannigan Meadow Lodge.

October

San Miguel de Allende
October 1 – 8

One of the most beautiful tourist towns in the world!  We visited in January and enjoyed every minute.  The tour group will also visit Guanajuato and Querétaro. More information.

Father Kino Cocospera Mission with lunch in Imuris
October 24

Depart at 8 AM and hopefully return by 6 PM (depending on the crossing, of course)

This was one of the few missions Father Kino actually physically helped build.  It is now deteriorating so badly that it won’t be long before there isn’t much left.  Bring your camera.  We will lunch in Imuris, known for their quesadillas, and try to visit (or at least see) the historic Pierson Mill before returning to Arizona.

$90 per person, lunch on your own.

November

Santa Ana and Trincheras with lunch at Elba’s in Santa Ana (Yum)
November 9

We will leave at 7 AM from the Americana Hotel and return by 6 PM with the usual caveats.

Viejo Santa Ana has a church there that contains historic vestments dating back to 1600 & 1700s.  With any luck we can make arrangements to see these vestments before we visit Trincheras.

Trincheras is the only INAH archaeological site in Sonora.  They opened a museum about 5 years ago and it is worth the visit. Bring your walking shoes as there is a good walk to see the terraces.

After our visit we will return to Santa Ana for a late lunch at Elba’s, one of the best restaurants in Sonora.

$90 per person, lunch on your own

Guadalajara
November 13 – 20

This tour will include Tequila (the city), Tlaquepaque, Chapala and all the surrounding area. Pricing and additional details.

Magdalena and Kino Missions
November 29

We will leave at 7 AM from the Americana Hotel and return by 6 PM with the usual caveats.

Let’s spend Black Friday shopping in Magdalena, while we visit Fr. Kino’s crypt, a delicious bakery and the additional Fr. Kino missions of San Ignacio and Tubutama.

San Ignacio is where Fr. Kino wanted to be buried but unfortunately, he died while in Magdalena. Tubutama served as a central mission for 5 indigenous villages in the area. Both the churches of San Ignacio and Tubutama were built in the 1700s and Tubutama contains some great art and a little museum.

$90 per person, lunch on your own

December

La Roca Brunch and Nogales City Tour
December 8

This tour starts at 9:45 AM from the Americana Hotel and will go directly to La Roca. We should be back by 4:00 pm.

Let’s start the Christmas season with La Roca’s Buffet and Nogales, Sonora city tour. After the buffet we will start our 3-hour driving tour of the City.  On this tour we will visit the Kennedy neighborhood, the maquila areas, Puerta de Anza to the east, the historic Bull Ring, the University of Sonora and some scattered areas beyond the Border.

$115 per person, buffet included.
